To Be Or Not To Be
The Old Woman

By Adiya Israel (House of Officer Job)

As we enter our repented life of obeying God and using Christ as an example we also enter into the phase of losing our old life. Christ told us in Matthew 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. Christ is the perfect example of how we are to be, it’s the years of filth we must lose to find life in this truth.

Through our lives we have questioned ourselves asking “am I doing the right thing”, and it wasn’t until our repentance and the keeping of Gods laws that we could truly weigh that question. Now that we have accepted the truth we should understand that it is a daily fight to kill off the old woman. 1 Corinthians 15:31, I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

It’s a constant fight with the old woman who desperately wants to rule over us. Fighting off her old habits and her old thoughts. We so badly desire to lock her in a box, cover it in cement and drop it into the deepest part of the ocean but it’s not that simple. We must figure out the things that we struggle with and know what scriptures to apply to provide us guidance and comfort. Having someone to talk to also helps with guidance. An elder sister that may have gone through something similar will not only provide you guidance but support.

There’s no effortless way to get rid of the many years of filth we carry, and it can’t be done in a short period of time. Think of the new you as having Progeria or the Benjamin Button disease. For example, A sister repents at age 33 and is now 37. She has 33 years of filth she must get rid of. Now after being in the truth for 4 years she now has 30 years of filth she must get rid of. The acknowledgment and acceptance that she still wants to live and the understanding that there are going to be struggles helps in overcoming the old woman. We must apply the scriptures to make the changes to ensure its the new woman that wins the fight. Our actions will be proof of who has rule and it starts with our minds. Sirach 37:17 The countenance is a sign of changing of the heart.
