Becoming a Servant:The Purpose Driven Life
YOU ARE CHOSEN! Christ tells us that we did not choose Him, but in fact, we were chosen by Him! John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain…You have a purpose, though at times the reason for our personal trials seem unclear. Like the sun shines after a rain, the revealing of your particular “why” will be revealed. Endurance is the key, it’s the only way to know your particular “why” and the purpose God has for you, this is our proving process with the most High God.
Once awaken to the truth of who we are, some have fallen into a state of depression – experiencing a feeling of loss or sadness for who we once were. Don’t despair! This is a good change according to scripture and should be a welcomed loss – a new you is emerging. It signifies your change and willingness to align yourself with the most High. 2 Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. So, embrace this opportunity and chance to truly grow into the person you were called to be, offer up your gift to the building of our nation. Be patient and develop your gifts, wait on your office. As the Lord opens your spiritual eyes, you’ll be ready to fulfill God’s purpose for your life.
Though the reason seems unclear for the moment, know there is a reason and a set purpose for each of us even before the world was formed. If he said he knew us before we were formed in our mother’s womb, wouldn’t he know and order our steps? We just have to be still and listen…and not to our own lusts but for the will of God. Jeremiah 1: 5 – Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. 2 Timothy 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began. We must first bethink ourselves, remembering we are the Israelites of the bible, learning to fear the most High by keeping his laws, statutes, and commandments and proving our love for HIM.
We all possess gifts that can aid and serve our immediate family, brothers and sisters, as well as the entire body. So, prepare your mind, make ready yourself to serve, becoming the humble servant for each other in the faith of Christ. This is loving your brother (or sister), as you love yourself put into action. And in this, we will begin to fulfill our given purpose.
So, what are the steps we can take that will lead us to this point, while enduring our trials?
• Start with the studying and examining the scriptures. What does God say? 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. Know all issues of life are covered in the bible. So, seek out situations that align with yours and meditate on it to see just how the situation was handled. What was said, what was NOT said. All that was written aforetime was written for our learning. So, too, your situation is for a time, and not just for us but to help someone else. Later, you would have gained the wisdom to be able to help someone endure and make it through the exact same problem. Now you are able to speak from a place of patience, experience and hope.
• Get counsel. Leadership is in place for guidance and counsel, they are there to watch over us. Hebrews 13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
• Keep the holy convocations. Make sure you keep the law to congregate on sabbaths, not forsaking the assembly. You may be going through something that someone else can help with, how would you know if you’re not around anyone in the body? As keepers of each other Galatians 6:2 says, Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. Have one counselor of many and reach out, just being around the body, in general, make the burden easier to bear.
• Don’t be afraid to share your skills and gifts, no matter how small you think it is. Take the initiative if you see an area where you can offer your help. This can be from sweeping to greeting a new person and making them feel welcome, to building a bookshelf. We all having something to offer and there is always something we can all learn from one another. 1 Cor 12: 26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
Let the scriptures, the guidance of leadership and those with the spirit of exhortation in the body build you up and encourage you.
